Steve Kawiecki is the newest pastor on staff at Grace United Methodist Church. He ‘officially’ began as an Associate Pastor on July 1, 2009. Steve was born and raised in Middle Tennessee by two wonderful parents, Serge and Debbie Kawiecki. From a young age, Steve quickly inherited a love for his state and his state’s official pastime, watching Tennessee football. Upon graduation from Lincoln County High School, Steve spent a year at Tennessee Tech and then transferred to the University of Tennessee where he obtained in 1996 a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and a minor in History. In 1997, Steve enrolled and began seminary at George W. Truett Seminary at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He graduated Truett in 2001 with a Master of Divinity with a concentration in Theology. After graduating Truett, Steve was called and accepted a position at First Baptist Church in Lawrence, Kansas as the Associate Pastor of Student Ministries. He served at FBC for almost eight years. Now, Steve is beginning his new journey at Grace United Methodist and is absolutely looking forward to this new placement at Grace. He has already found the people at Grace to be warm, welcoming, faithful and hospitable and loves the humor and laughter that comes in serving with this staff. He is excited about the vision of the church and creatively figuring out how to live into the mission statement of loving God, living like Jesus and serving the world. Just recently, on May 30, 2009, Steve married Michele Brinker. Michele is the Director of Corporate Development at UMB. They both look forward to their life together.

What is your favorite kind of food?
Believe it or not, i think my favorite food is escargot. Unfortunately, I rarely get the chance to eat escargot. For what it is worth, my favorite drinks are Sun-Drop and sweet tea.
If you were a color in a crayon box, what would it be? Why?
I would be bright orange because the color of my favorite football team, Tennessee Volunteers, is bright orange. Pretty sad, huh.
What makes you laugh?
I always laugh when watching Seinfeld, Arrested Development or the Colbert Report. I also laugh a lot when I am around creative and funny storytellers. Humor is one of God's gifts to the world.
What do you do for fun?
I like to exercise, especially running. I like to read good novels of all genres. I also enjoy watching movies on Netflix. The best fun though is having an engaging conversation with my best friend and wife Michele. That's fun.
Where do you see grace at in the world?
The laughter of a child, beautiful music, and in the midst of holy friendships.
